While the striped marlin and medium size dorado bite continues to be fairly consistent off of Punta Perico and south of Muertos the big news this week was the addition of Dogsnapper and Wahoo in the daily reports.
Trolling live bait at the South end of Cerralvo Island was the ticket for the 'Hoos. This method leads to a lot of half eaten mac's and quick removal of hooks from monofilament but the addition of a short single-strand wire leader rigged with a trap hook helps turn bites into fillets in the box.
The Dogsnapper bite has been nearly non-existent up until a few days ago when one of our Captains decided to give them a go. Catching ladyfish for bait the crew headed to a rockpile and were lucky enough to hook, if not land, three large Pargo. Two were lost in the rocks, the third bent out a 9/0 Owner.
For those not looking to fill the coolers there have been some very nice Roosterfish around. Two to Four fish in the 30-60lb class has been common. Ladyfish is the preferred bait, and circle hooks work very well during the release segment of this C&R fishery.
