Amberjack (Pez Fuerte... Literally "Strong Fish") are hard fighting members of the jack family and first cousins to the popular Yellowtail which are also available this time of year. Live bait and vertical jigs/yoyo iron are top producers when targeting these bad boys. Spring is in full swing here in Southern Baja and the fishing, especially of the inshore kind, has been picking up over the last week with Snapper, Cabrilla, and Sierra being taken in good numbers on live bait. Making mackerel is key but has been difficult so stock up on light line and small hooks (6lb line, #10 hooks) to better your odds while handlining for bait. Inshore fishing for Huachinango, pargo and other snapper is starting to heat up while the Wahoo bite continues at Cerralvo Island
